SMTBC  Strava Cup Summer Series 2024/25

The Southland Mountainbike club is running another Strava cup series over the Summer. Similar to the last one. Each segment will be for a month.

Rounds will start at Sandy Point, then Bluff when the trails open in December & another in Gore in the new year. There will be a mixture of xc, climbing and enduro combinations. There is an E-Bike segment too just remember to save ride as E-Bike ride. Your best 5 of the 6 rounds go toward final points.

#6 March's Segment.

Back to the Gore trails this month.

A real modern XC racer's loop. Steep up, fun down!

Start about halfway up the main climb, where Piwakawaka exits onto tbe track. Head up and follow main track, turn sharp right at the 'jumps line' turn off. Keep right and head up a short pinch to the top of the jumps track before you start one of the best descents in Southland. Follow the arrows, once you begin descending, there is a sharp left about 200m from the top, then be sure to follow the strava cup arrow signs as there are a few gap jumps down this trail.

They are all avoidable, and the whole trail is 'rollable' with chicken lines around all the jumps. There is one tricky corner, affectionately known by the locals as the 'slippery corner'... you can't miss it, which does require some careful line choice, but nothing a real strava warrior can't handle. There is a small yellow 'caution' sign just before this corner. The segment finishes in a small clearing about halfway down the track.

Strongly recomend to pre-ride this one if you are not familiar with this track. There are jumps, but they are all avoidable, with signs pointing you down the 'easy' route. From the finish, continue all the way down the rest of the track and join back onto main water race trail for another lap. Again, please exercise caution if this is your first time, there are jumps, but all are avoidable. The descent track is rated as grade 4. Enjoy!

If you like what we are doing with the Stava Cup and other tracks please join us for  the next working bee, we have a heap of new trails planned in the recently logged area to replace Svend and Lindsay and there is always some piece of track that needs some work. Enjoy!

Here is March's segment.
